MUSIC RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Casa Lü Sur welcomes musicians, composers, and sound artists whose practice intersects with visual art, writing, research, performance, or spatial experimentation. While Casa Lü does not operate as a specialized music residency, musicians are fully welcome to apply through either the Visual Arts Residency or the Writers Residency, depending on the focus of their project.

This interdisciplinary structure allows musicians to develop work that engages with sound, space, language, and context, while benefiting from the same level of support, time, and critical exchange offered to all residents.

Working Environment & Artistic Exchange

Residents benefit from a focused and quiet working environment, and a rich immersion in Mexico City’s cultural and sonic landscape. The program encourages deep concentration alongside exchange with other residents, allowing musicians to develop projects at their own rhythm.

The residency is structured yet flexible, offering space for experimentation, listening, writing, rehearsing, and conceptual development without the pressure of production-driven outcomes.

Feedback takes place through conversations, group discussions, and one-on-one meetings. While Casa Lü does not provide discipline-specific music instruction, recording studios, or musical equipment, residents benefit from critical dialogue across artistic fields, often leading to unexpected connections and new directions.

Musicians are welcome to share work-in-progress through listening sessions, short performances, or presentations adapted to the nature of their project.

Spaces for Musicians

Casa Lü Sur offers two independent accommodations suitable for musicians seeking privacy and focus. Please note that musicians are only hosted in these spaces and not in the main house.

La Casita
A private house ideal for artist duos, collaborators, or residents traveling with a companion. Accommodates up to four people.

El Departamento
A private apartment for one or two people, well-suited for individual work and research.

Both spaces provide quiet working conditions and easy access to the residency’s shared areas and activities.

Final Presentation

At the end of the residency, participants are invited to present their work in a format appropriate to their practice. This may take the form of a performance, listening session, reading or presentation.

The final event emphasizes process over product and offers an opportunity to share work with the Casa Lü community.

Applying as a Musician

Musicians and sound artists apply through one of the following programs:

  • Visual Arts Residency – for sound-based, spatial, or installation-oriented projects

  • Writers Residency – for composition, research, or text-based work

Applications are reviewed based on artistic clarity, project coherence, and the relevance of the residency environment to the applicant’s practice.
