Background:

For a while now, I have been intrigued by the cross-overs between humanities and science. They are a matter of perspectives and disciplines which potentially help humanity, that is, if we were able to adopt an integrated approach. From quantum physics, we understand that waves are a range of positions of particles; waves show the probability of position of a particle–and this is energy. Uncertainty is fundamental in the fabric of the Universe–a phenomenon that is related to the Uncertainty Principle and the Observer’s Principle–where certain combinations of variables are intertwined/interdependent. The debate goes on, even after a century, with regards to whether a conscious observer is a quantum object or not. Similarly, I-Ching has no definite position, and even when consulted, the reading is to be interpreted by the seeker.

Previously, in my series A-MARE (to love-to sea), my main project since 2018, I have been exploring the concept of connections by weaving sea images– I concur with Dr. Carl Jung, in that, “the sea is the favorite symbol for the unconscious, the mother of all that lives.” In this context of connections, I-Ching intrigues me as a system of relationships. In 2023, at Canton-sardine, a Vancouver art gallery, I offered The Game of Truth with 64 yin (odd) and yang (even) numbers juxtaposed as a spiral and a question mark on the floor, a set of dice and a guide for people to walk through and then, to obtain their readings from the realm of Augmented Reality, by scanning the number they arrive at.

My poetry titled Between written at the beginning of my project “A-MARE” (to love-to sea):

between

my favourite sonata and another

crescendo and decrescendo

the rest and the staccato

it plays like this

between

a flow and a back flow

the glitter and the glow

the pause and the ebb

it undulates like this

between

the lightning and the thunder

a cloud envelops

like the peace that interrupts

the conflicts of the heart

between

the drops of rain

consonants and vowels

today and tomorrow

like the crevices alongside our fingers

after

very little

a bit too much

when

these, simply are...

between

a cut and a wave

a weave and another

memories and testimonies

meditated and made

between

the yellow and the violet

the fabric of our humanity

light of dawn and dusk

blood has laced the blue

certain questions remain

not only of time and space

my world

breathing

its meaning, in-the-meantime
